LO1 - Game analysis form - SMITE

Smite is very modern game as it was made only a few years ago. Smite is a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena). It shows conventions of the genre as it has the classic game modes and it has a very fantasy style to it. When compared to other games in the genre it is one of the most popular but there are two other games that are more popular. 

The characters in the game are based upon real gods so they all have their own lore that comes from real world religions but the game itself does not have its own story the games focus is more on the multiplayer battles. You can read up on each god’s real world backstory but this does not affect the player’s experience as you can play the game without knowing any character backstory. The story does not affect the game as the games focus is not on a story but on the online battles that players can play against each other. 

Smite was produced by hi-rez studios on the unreal engine. The game was based on the classic layout of the MOBA genre in the main gamemode of conquest, which features three lanes that the team must progress down the lanes and destroy a series of defences to reach the final objective the titan. The game mechanics are very complex as they feature a variety of animations and effects that would have been difficult to create. 

The ways in which characters are relevant are how they play in the game, as some characters are more relevant in certain situations in the game. They match conventions of the genre as they all have fantasy elements to them whether it is magic or the way a character dresses. 

The challenge in the game is too make a team composition that is easy for every player to play but who can also play effectively against the enemy team at any point in the match. The main element o gameplay is the teamwork as this is key to winning a match and the learning curve is not too high and new players can start playing straight away. The game has constant updates coming to it, which help keep the game up to date and enjoyable. 

This game is intended for fans of the MOBA genre and people over the age of 12+. We can see that it is intended for these types of people as it features many recognisable features of the genre and has very stylised characters that would be intended for a older audience. 

This game is available on PC and Xbox one. The game feels fluid on both platforms but the game was only recently released on the Xbox so the game feels more up to date with content on the PC.
