LO4 - Gantt Chart

LO4 -My responsibilities in the group

The game idea me and my group are working on is called Lights Out. It is centred around the ruins of a destroyed city with vast countryside surrounding it. Players spawn in the world as survivors and must explore the new world they are in. players can form teams with other players and make bases and collect resources with them. All the while the players must avoid interaction with a single monster centred around the city but will venture beyond the city at night to hunt for food. In order to survive players must craft powerful items and explore the world in order to avoid other rival players and the monster itself.

My role in my team is the designer of the many assets in the game such as characters and items, getting an idea of our target audience and giving a description of how the game will play.

By the end of the unit i will be expected to deliver clear designs of many assets in our game, such as characters, items, enemies, weapons and a general idea of the game world. I will have needed to state what our ideal target audience would be as well as a ideal person. I will also need to layout in detail what our game will play like and what you can do in the game. These will be required by me in order to flesh out our pitch and make sure that our pitch is detailed enough so that people can get an understanding of our project.

LO4 - Game concepts

1.  An open world survival game called "lights out".

2. A FPS (first person shooter) in which players compete to capture objectives scattered around a select map. Players will select a set weapon class such as sniper rifles. This choice will define what perk the player can choose. The player can level up in-game by completing objectives and killing other players. Once they've earned enough XP they will earn a level they will then be able too select 1 of 2 perks one these will benefit the previously selected weapon choice for example a certain perk may allow you to take more damage or decrease your detectability.

3. A strategy game in which your objective is too expand your empire and take over the earth. Once this is completed you can then expand across the milky way and set out to conquer it. While doing so you may come across alien empires who will be competing with you in order to gain control of the rest of the galaxy and your own home world. When in combat you can give your troops orders by taking the role of a commander this will transport you down onto the battlefield into the first person view to give orders to your troops whether its a land battle or a space battle.

LO3 - Game review of Star Wars Republic Commando

Star Wars Republic Commando is a gritty first person shooter developed by lucasarts and released on march 1 2005. This has been named by fans of the game as the best co-op shooter that isn't co-op, at first this may be confusing but the games mechanics in which you order your fellow squad members to do certain tasks within the game world such as "take cover" and "use this as a sniper position" these features give the game the feel of a co-op shooter but with AI. It offers star wars fans a original story from the point of view of a elite clone trooper, this offers a perspective never before seen in the star wars universe. The story takes place over the course of 3 missions, the first taking place at the start of the Clone wars on geonosis, the 2nd is where you investigate a derelict space ship and the final mission is on a planet called kashyyk. All these locations feel unique from one another and give each mission its own definition and personality allowing the player to feel enveloped in a larger world. Each mission can take multiple hours to complete giving the game hours off playtime.

Where the game really shines is within its characters. within your squad you have 4 members including yourself. The members are sev, scorch and fixer you play as 'boss' the leader of delta squad, all these characters have unique traits and personalities which make these characters feel like real people allowing the player to connect to them and feel something for these characters. Another aspect  in which this game shines is within its combat, its very fluid and you control your character very well. All the weapons feel good and don't feel underpowered. The level design is very well done and accommodates the certain objectives that you may have to complete. The skill gap for this game is very high and is definitely not one too be played casually which honestly makes the game feel more gritty and more enjoyable  as result. The platforms this game is available on is the Xbox and on PC. I believe the target audience too be for fans of star wars and of first person shooters.

My own personnel rating is a 9/10 as this game is a must have for star wars fans and shooter fans alike with its unique story and gaming mechanics.
